Class Levels

Pre-Ballet
An introduction to basic dance steps and vocabulary for children ages 3 to 6. Dancers learn coordination and develop an understanding of musical rhythm. Young dancers develop the joy of moving and discover confidence in their movement.

Conservatory Level 1
Dedicated to correct placement of upper body, arms, legs, and head. Coordination of legs, arms, and head are also introduced with artistic expression of port de bras. Proper classical ballet technique is emphasized from Level 1. Strengthening and Repertoire classes are offered to expand students’ dance vocabulary and movement.

Conservatory Level 2
To consistently master the placement of the body, the legs, the arms and the head, developing elementary skills in the coordination of more difficult steps. Pre-pointe work is also introduced to build strength. Level 2 is a continuation of Level 1, where students develop further self-discipline, focus, and a love for dance.

Conservatory Level 3
To develop strength in upper body, legs and feet, as well as stamina by ways of increasing repetitions and speed of acquired steps. Coordination is further developed through varying combinations. Musicality as well as consistency, is emphasized, to refine technique. Students begin pointe work and gain an increased understanding of placement and balance. Contemporary movement is also practiced for versatility and movement quality.

Conservatory Level 4+
To become aware of a dancer’s own individual strengths and to understand how to achieve their best artistic qualities. Dancers learn to strengthen the stability in movement by developing balance, as well as by developing the smooth connection of movements of the arms and body. At this level, dancers are prepared and perfected to audition and dance in professional dance companies, schools and/or higher education programs. Dancers receive personal assistance and guidance to reach their highest potential as a dancer.

Philosophy
MOGA Conservatory of dance director, Misa Oga, specializes in ballet pedagogy. Her methodology and research have been selected and presented at national conferences such as NDEO (National Dance Education Organization) and CORPS de ballet International. In her graduate studies, her thesis highlighted how music through pedagogical practices in ballet class can have lasting effects on a dancer. Misa carefully trains dancers who are articulate and precise in their technique and training.
Misa’s teaching philosophy evolves from her teaching background, as well as her education and personal training experiences. She believes productive learning is fostered in a positive and mindful classroom. She commits to presenting material in a reflective manner and believes in a student-centered environment. She delivers open and generous energy into every class and offers students the space to approach their work with confidence and authority. Misa establishes goals for MOGA Conservatory of Dance students and encourages them to reach their greatest potential. Through a reflective approach and through being transparent about her pedagogic choices, Misa empowers individual students to achieve their goals and their highest potential.
MOGA Conservatory of Dance students are encouraged to be intelligent, think critically, pay attention to detail, and be articulate, thoughtful, responsible, and strong. The qualities that we admire in human beings, such as honesty, courage, wisdom, creativity, and compassion, are the qualities that we value and nurture in the arts.
From the youngest two-year-old students to the oldest dancers, MOGA Conservatory of Dance nurtures dancers and empowers individual students to achieve their goals and their highest potential. MOGA Conservatory of Dance students have grown throughout the years, not only in their ballet skills but also in their academic work, due to their increased level of concentration and confidence. MOGA is confident that through the arts, students can learn and connect with themselves, other individuals, their community, and the wider world.
Because of the quality of their work and mastery of detail in their dance training, MOGA Conservatory of Dance students are highly favored for jobs in the profession and in other fields. Many dancers have received thousands of dollars in scholarships from young ages, including elementary school age. MOGA dancers succeed in many aspects of their lives.
